New in The Wardrobe: Black Oxfords

Buying flat shoes is a hard task for me although I wear them a lot. I am naturally attracted to sky-high-impossible-to-walk-in heels because they make me feel taller than I am and because they're gorgoeus as hell! I used to torture myself with beautiful, leg-elongating shoes daily, but then I moved to London. Life there involves too much walking and after a few extremely painful days when I wanted to cut my legs off I discovered the joy of flats.

I am a huge fan of Oxford shoes and their British heritage. I already own black heels, brown heels and brown flats in the timeless style so it was only logical to bring these bad boys home. I can literally buckle up and enjoy the ride now.

The Wardrobe | Facets of a Cut | The Straight Skirt: Taffeta & Lace

Everything that features lace and sequins in a tasteful I love. I guess I'm naturally drawn to all things beautiful, luxurious and sparkly. Which explains why I pulled this outfit. The subtle sequins on top are perfectly appropriate for everyday wear. Who doesn't love some sparkle for breakfast right?

The idea for the skirt was born while my mom and I were trying to bring some order to the chaos of our textile cabinet. I found the beautiful lace laying on top of the beautiful salmon fabric left from my cousins prom dress. It was such a beautiful pairing. The slight sheen of the underskirt creates a unique background for the lace.

This is actually the last of three skirts I created using the simple pattern of a straight skirt. However, they are completely different thanks to the different materials I chose for each one. See the other two here: Romantic Nostalgia and Modern Day Classics.

Guest Post: 8 Things That Have Changed Men's Fashion

Fashion plays a distinctive role in our culture, men's clothing has been affected by outside factors for many years. In a way fashion is a social force a way of creating an identity. Certain subcultures have been created as a way of rebelling against society, groups of individuals mainly the younger generation have used fashion as a way of breaking away and expressing themselves.

When it comes to the fashion industry what's hot today is not tomorrow - but it is surprising the amount of trends are reused and reworked to suit modern trends. The fashion industry is ever changing however still to this day what men have worn in the past still impacts what they will wear in the future. Future trends will continue to be influenced by past fashion trends and we hate to say it but like your mum said, “everything comes back around” - because it really does!

Wednesday Wishes Vol.11 | Spring Dreaming

Only recently did I discover Choies and I am obsessed since. I would find myself browsing the website for hours at a time, lusting over beautiful dress and stunning necklaces. I figured that if I love it so much you might too so here's a look (or a wishlist if you like) I'd love wear. And yes, I know it's not Spring yet, but the 18 degrees outside definitely feel like it.

1. A classic denim jacket is a must in every girl's wardrobe. It can dress-down an outfit, keep you warm on a cooler evening and it'll never go out of style. The light was of this one is perfect for the spring and summer!
2. This bulky metallic sandals are simply gorgoeus and can act as a neutral to complete any outfit.

The Wardrobe | Facets of a Cut | The Straight Skirt: Modern Day Classics

With plaid and lace being all the rage the past few seasons people seem to forget that actually both are classics that have been around for decades. Even the idea of pairing them together is not all that new. Think of the beautiful Alexander McQueen dress Sarah Jessica Parker wore to the AngloMania Costume Institute Gala at the Met in 2006.

I've always found the combination unexpected, elegant and mesmerizing. When I saw this gorgoeus plaid fabric in a store I knew exactly what I wanted to make out of it (apart from a dress you'll see later on in another outfit post). I just needed to find the right lace to go with it, which proved to be a harder task. The result was worth the search!

This is the second of three skirts I created using the simple pattern of a straight skirt. However, they are completely different thanks to the different materials I chose for each one. See the first one here: Romantic Nostalgia.

Inspirational Quote: Make a Step

Happy Monday!

Every Monday I share a motivational quote to inspire both you and myself. I try to be as positive, confident and hopeful as I can, but sometimes I doubt myself and my actions. I wonder am I on the right path, do I make the right choices, most of all I wonder is what I am doing enough. There's this little voice in my head whispering, trying to convince me that I have this Disney character thinking, that things won't always happen the way I want them to and that maybe it is time to get real and consider a career outside of the fashion and beauty field that I love, that whatever I do my dreams are out of reach. I am not ready to listen to this voice and I hope I never will.

We all have our moments of doubt, it's human, but no matter how far your dreams seem to be, or how rocky your path is all you need to do is make a step, and then another one, and another one... It takes effort, persistence and time, it takes patience and sometimes it takes blind stubbornness. Don't let that little voice convince you to give up on your dreams. Just make a step ...

Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.Have a wonderful week!

Interview: Mariann Ami about Modelling

A few months ago I had the pleasure to interview the beautiful Mariann Ami. We talked about her lingerie e-boutique - Vision of Femininity (read here). The young entrepreneur, who has also been modelling for the past year and a half, agreed to share her insider experiences and views on the profession.

You’ve started modeling when you turned 18 years old. What are your thoughts on the profession after 18 months?

I think I've matured and obtained a lot of wisdom since I have been modelling. It's a wonderful life experience and I enjoy what I do. I guess I feel this is where I belong - in a creative industry. It's what I've imagined and matches my ambitions in life. I welcome challenges of having to work hard. I know hard work pays off.

Many girls start their modeling career as early as 13 years old or even younger. How early is too early in your opinion?

13 is very early to start modelling, however it depends on how mature you are at a young age and what your attitude is towards your future. I first decided modelling was for me when I was coming up 13 but I didn't develop the confidence until I was 18. It's rewarding to get into modelling at a young age, you need to spend several years learning about how the industry works and your role as a model. There's a lot of hard work that goes into it and it's all about continually improving. An outstanding portfolio is a never-ending goal. I know a lot of successful models started modelling typically from the age of 15-18 which is probably the best age to get into it. There are successful models who even start older than this, from ages 19-23, it's always gratifying to see that happen.

Beauty: January 2014 Favorites

Starting with January I will do my best to be consistent with sharing my beauty favorites each month. I am even thinking of making videos instead of articles but lets not get ahead of my self. Youtube seems like a very fun thing to do and I've wanted (and tried) to start a channel for a very long time but there's always something in the way of posting a video (like unruly hair that looks weird the whole time and I end up deleting the footage). As a friend of mine would say "pretty little kids problems." :)

On to the favorites. I have been traveling a lot this month so I found myself suing the basics that always work. The things I take with me on the road are the ones I know I really love and always go back to.

1. The MUA Undressed palette contains all natural tones I might ever need and allows me to create so many different looks. I like that most of the colors are very warm and really suit my skin and hair. The quality and pigmentation of the shadows are absolutely great. When I tried it for the first time I was surprised to find such a versatile and affordable (because I don't like the word cheap) palette.

Inspirational Quote: Create a better tomorrow

Happy Monday!

Today I don't have a wise, motivating quote to share with you. Today I urge you to ask yourself one question:

Let the words sink in and take time to search for an answer. It could be as simple as waking up 30 minutes earlier or taking more time for yourself. But it could also be hard, even frightening like leaving your job or moving to another country. Either way be determined and passionate, stay strong and make a step towards a new tomorrow even if takes all you have to offer, because ...

Have a great week!
