The Wardrobe | Facets of a Cut | The Straight Skirt: Romantic Nostalgia

Personal style photo featuring a handmade straight skirt, cable knit cardigan and vintage accessories
Slowly sewing has taken over my heart. There's a certain charm about every step of the process of creating a garment. For me it starts with a fabric. It's feel and color, the way it falls and drapes is often what inspires a piece. The same cut can look absolutely different when created from a different textile.

This is the first of three skits I created using the simple pattern of a straight skirt. However, they are completely different thanks to the different materials I chose for each one.

Reading List: In Fashion They Live

Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be.

There are rare women in history that enrich and shape the world into a more beautiful, inspiring place. Reading their stories is not only interesting, it encourages me, motivates me to be better, to believe in my own strength and follow my heart. They were often misunderstood, even laughed at, but their success is only a reminder that impossible is nothing when you stay true to yourself and don't let anyone blur your vision.

1. Empress of Fashion: A Life of Diana Vreeland - An editor, curator and wit, Diana Vreeland is the woman who launched Twiggy and advised Jackie O. A true visionary, she was a fearless innovator who inspired designers, models, photographers and artists, and reinvented the way we think about style.

Inspirational Quote: You CAN Be Great

Happy Monday!

Think of something you really, really want to do. Why haven't you done it yet? Are you waiting for the right time? There might always be an obstacle in the way. Don't let it stop you. Are you afraid? You might always be. Just tell yourself those shivers are, in fact, excitement. You're not ready yet? You might never feel completely sure of yourself. You might fail? Yes, but you might also succeed. You'll never know unless you find the courage to try.

Remember Jane Lee Logan's words: "For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail."

Inspirational Quote: Don't doubt yourself. Doubt your limits.

Happy Monday!

Do you doubt yourself when faced with an obstacle or an important decision to make? Do you believe in yourself and your strength enough to make a leap, to take a life changing step, to reach for your dreams?

Whenever you find your self in doubt remember how much you have achieved already.
In moments of doubt remember that you have the power to achieve everything you've ever dreamed of. As D. Ward once said: "If you're going to doubt something, doubt your limits," because "when you doubt your power, you give power to your doubts."

Doubt kills more dreams and failure ever will.
Don't let it kill yours!

Homemade: Heart-shaped waffles made with love

Healthy waffles recipe

Everyone at home adores Sunday morning. Coffee in pajamas, broaching breakfast and a favorite magazine are the beginning of a relaxing day. It's wonderful to dedicate the entire day to my loved ones without checking the clock even once. I wish there were at least two Sundays in a week.

This morning I decided to make waffles. I think they are the perfect company to a cup of aromatic coffee. You can find many recipes for waffles. I will share mine with you. I've tried to make it healthy, easy and quick.

All you need are a couple of minutes and ...

Declutter your wardrobe with RagsExchange.com

We live in a consumerist society. With mass-manufacturing and fast fashion on the rise clothes have become widely available but also disposable. Buying a trendy dress, skirt or top we don’t expect to wear it longer than a season or two at best. Thanks to the internet and the social media we’re being offered hundreds of personalized choices on a daily, even hourly basis. Often the temptation is impossible to resist and we find ourselves adding yet another garment to an already overflowing wardrobe. However, we keep wearing the same things over and over again because nothing can be found in the clutter. Sounds familiar? Each season we promise to make space, clean out the pieces we don’t wear anymore. Throwing away clothing we once loved, however, induces guilt and frustration.

RagsExchange.com is a great way to avoid the unpleasant experience by selling the pieces to someone who’s going to love them. With their unlimited free listings with up to 5 photos per item it has never been easier to declutter. They even offer the option to mark items down for clearance if they don’t sell. Add their low commission of just 5% and the offer is impossible to miss!

Wednesday Wishes Vol.10 | Farfetch sale. Accessories Edit.

Accessories can make or break an outfit. High-quality designer ones are great investment pieces that can be worn for years to come. The January sales are a great time to add new timeless treasures to your wardrobe. My advice is to be smart and think about the way a new purchase can be paired with what you already own contributing to your style and to choose the classics that will always be in style over seasonal trendy pieces.

Wish list featuring designer accessories from Farfetch
1. Dolce & Gabbana's 'Miss Sicily' tote or any other red purse is a great way to bring color to an outfit. Plus beautiful classic red always looks stylish and lady-like and can be paired with your lipstick and nails.

The Wardrobe: Romantic Dreaming of Provence

There are countless things that can inspire me to create a piece of clothing or put an outfit together. I might see a fabric in a store, a runway look, a magazine shoot, or even a flower or a certain color scheme, a texture. Inspiration is all around us, we just have to keep our eyes and minds open.

Guest Post: New Year’s Style Resolutions

Hello 2014 illustration

It’s that time of year again when you should stop and take stock of the year gone by, if you’re inclined to try and be a better you then this is the time to give it a go.

If you’re not one of those people who likes to make resolutions to learn a new language and you’re not even going to pretend that 2014 is the year you’re going to start hitting up the gym, then maybe these New Year’s style resolutions will be a better fit for you.

  1. Purge your closet – One of the most important things that you can do to start the New Year off on the right foot is a decent wardrobe purge. A closet full of old clothes that you never wear make for long mornings of not being able to decide what to put on. There are some basic rules to follow when embarking on a wardrobe purge: if there are items you have never worn, items that are stained, ripped or the wrong size then it’s time for them to go. Don’t be scared of having a really empty wardrobe, think of it as an opportunity to re-stock with items that you’ll cherish for a lot longer!

Taking time to let my mind wonder was a fun, relaxing and enlightening experience so thank you, Adi! :)

2. Have an article published in Vogue
3. Meet Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington & Bill Cunningham
4. Interview John Galliano
5. Visit New York, Milan, Paris & London fashion weeks
6. Own a house with a garden and a view

Inspirational Quote: Be Brave. Make a Change.

Happy Monday!

There are moments in life when moving forward requires more than a few steps, it requires a leap to the other side when you cannot even see the shore, it requires gathering all the courage twinkling inside your heart and making an enormous change. That can be terrifying. Trust me, I know. But isn't regret more appalling? Isn't allowing fear to stop you from growing, evolving and progressing more petrifying? You have probably heard that magic happens out of your comfort zone. To move forward and achieve your dreams you need to step at the edge and make the jump. Make yourself uncomfortable, scare yourself, put yourself in situations you've never been before. It is the only way to learn. Embrace the fear, the thrill, the excitement and jump.

As Benjamin Mee once said: "You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it."

Actually ...

What I like most about change is that's a synonym for "hope." Linda Ellerbee
Just remember ...

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies.
Have and exciting week!

New Year's Plans for 2014

There is something beautiful about having the chance to rewrite your future. Crystal Gentilello

The arrival of a new year always feels like a fresh start, a clean slate, a chance to start over with more strength, determination and persistence. We make resolutions promising ourselves to keep them. However, more often than not, we start strong and with every week passing by the initial enthusiasm fades until we completely forget about the goals we had at midnight. That is why this year I am not making resolutions, instead I am making decisions, I am making plans. Plans that are realistic and I know that if I really try I can realize them.

1. I will find a job that makes me feel accomplished and allows me to move forward in my career and the direction of my dreams.
