Moment in Time: The Mystery of Chanel No. 5 | Part II

“A perfume such as had never before been made – a woman’s perfume with a woman’s scent.”― Coco Chanel

The story of the legendary Chanel No. 5 has been told time and time again, but the mystery behind the scent and the name of the perfume remains. There are three different versions about the origin of the scent and several hypotheses about the meaning behind the innovative name of No. 5.

Another theory about the significance of the name speculates that the designer knew the numerological significance of the number five, representing the fifth element – the quinta essentia of which the cosmos is made.

The Beauty Benefits and Uses of Coconut Oil | Hair

Coconut oil

People living in tropical coastal regions have been using coconut oil as a part of their beauty regime for hundreds of years. It most probably is the secret of their luscious hair and glowing, healthy skin. In the western part of the world the nature's miracle had negative connotations attached to it because it is very high in saturated acids. For that reason it was believed to be unhealthy and fattening. Only in the 1990s, after scientifically proven to be healthy and beneficial not only when consumed, but also when applied to the skin and hair, coconut oil became a cult, hyped ingredient in the food and cosmetic industry.

Coconut oil, thanks to its structure, is the only natural oil that penetrates the hair shaft and works its way through all the layers of the hair strand, reducing loss of protein, regaining the hair's natural moisture, and filling the hollow shafts, adding body and thickness. Working on a much deeper level, unlike other oils that remain on the surface of the hair and only benefit its appearance, coconut oil actually repairs damaged hair and boosts the scalp health.

Eysilix Instant Eye Rescue by Indeed Laboratories
About a month ago I was chosen to try the Eysilix Instant Eye Rescue by Indeed Laboratories. No need to say I was very excited about it but I wanted to give it a good go before writing a review. I used it morning and night after cleansing my face and I it is one of the best eye creams I have tried.

The Beauty Benefits and Uses of Coconut Oil | Skin

Coconut Oil has been used for skin and hair care in the tropical climates for hundreds of years. In the 1990s scientific studies proved its advantages and healing properties to the Western world.  It seems to be the answer for every condition – skin care, hair care, weight loss, just name it!

Coconut Oil is high on saturated fats, more specifically medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), which unlike the long-chain saturated fats (found in foods like bacon and cream), speed-up metabolism by working the liver. Therefore Coconut Oil helps the body burn fats faster and benefits weight loss. It also balances the cholesterol levels in the body, lowering the risk of diabetes, heart diseases and stroke.

Inspirational Quote: Every Day is Special

Happy Monday!

We all have hopes, dreams, plans about the future, about how we'd like our lives to be. Dreaming keeps us moving forward, aiming further, reaching higher. But sometimes, busy chasing our dreams we forget to enjoy each moment. We start waiting for a special occasion, a day when everything will be better and often when that day comes we're still not satisfied and set ourselves new goals to reach.

Dreaming  keeps us moving forward, aiming further, reaching higher. But don't forget to live each minute of every day and enjoy it to the fullest. Wear your favorite clothes and the boldest lipstick you own, turn your music up and sing your heart out, tell the people you love how much they mean to you ...

Don't save things for a special occasion. Every day of your life i a special occasion. Thomas Monson

The Wardrobe: Dressed in Pastels

I associate spring with soft pastel colors and elaborate light knits. Salmon and mint are two of my favorite shades and paired together create a beautiful and fresh combination. In-your-face neons might be all the rage for SS2013, but I much more prefer the stylish, lady-like charm of pastels. They're so light and calm, harmonically enhancing the appearance without being overwhelming or overpowering. Pastels and neons are like Sade and Kesha. One has a soft, velvety voice and sophisticated beauty and the other one is just out there and loud (sorry to all Kesha fans).

Pastels and neons are like Sade and Kesha.

Pencil skirts never go out of fashion with their classic feminine and sexy, yet sophisticated like that enhances a woman's curves. I love the subtle metallic sheen of the one I am wearing, which ads a trendy vibe without being too loud. The salmon floral motives tie the outfit together referencing the light knit I am wearing on top.

To add a saturated, decisive color I chose the deep, dark purple heels and purse. They frame the outfit perfectly, leaving the pastel tones in the spotlight.

I am wearing: Knit top: Handmade by my mom / Jacket & Skirt: H&M / Purse & Shoes: From Local Stores / Headband & Ring: New Look

June Glossy Box. Summer Looks

On Monday morning, while enjoying my first cup of coffee and getting ready to take on the day I've received the June Glossy Box. I cannot think of a better way to start the week! I couldn't be happier with the products I've received this month, themed around the summer (which I hope will eventually arrive in the UK because God knows I need a little bit of sun in my life! I went a shade lower with my foundation and that must say something!)

I found 3 full-sized products and 2 samples (to be fair they are not even samples just a tiny bit smaller than a full-sized versions).

Moment in Time: The Diamond Tennis Bracelet

Diamond Tennis Bracelet

The diamond tennis bracelet is one of the most elegant, classy and versatile pieces of jewelry. It is compatible with every wardrobe and suitable for every occasion, from a dressy cocktail, to a casual launch, to a tennis game. Yes, a tennis game! It was at a tennis tournament (the U.S. Open in 1987 to be exact) where the string of diamonds, previously known as  in-line bracelet, became known as tennis bracelet.

How to Soothe and Smooth Dry Hands

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I suffer from extremely dry hands. And when I say suffer I am not exaggerating even a little. Things reached the point where I would wakeup in the middle of the night to moisturize my hands. I even had to buy a new cream from the airport on my way home not so long ago. After a few months of trial and error I finally found a routine that soothes and smoothes my hands effectively.

Shopping Edit: Summer Wedges

My love for wedges has grown greatly during the past year. They are my favorite summer shoes because I feel much more comfortable than wearing a pair of heels. I pair them with dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, dress them up or down depending on my mood.

Versatility and comfort are the two most important traits I look for in an every day shoes and wedges give me both.

The weather in the UK has finally warmed up a little and we see the sun more often, which has put in a dangerous (for my bank account) shopping mood. I am looking for a new pair of wedges to add to my collection.

Check out an edit of the pairs I booked marked so far and tell me which one is your favorite! (Use the arrows to see all of the wedges.)

Why is the Hemp Seed Oil good for your skin?

Hemp Seed Oil

What is Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil is extracted from the Cannabis Sativa plant. (Don't worry it's perfectly legal.) Rich in Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9, as well as well as Vitamins A, C, E and D, and beneficial amounts of amino acids Hemp Seed Oil is a natural skin care superstar.

Hemp PlantWhy is Hemp Seed Oil good for your skin and hair?
  • Healthy and youthful skin contains natural lipids (fats) called Ceramids. They are part of the surface skin structure that keeps it moisturized. Insufficiency of Ceramids causes dryness, irritation, and sensitive more malleable to environmental damage and aging. Hemp Seed Oil is made up of 80% of essential fatty acids (Omega 3,6, and 9), which is higher than any other plant on Earth. The ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 so closely matches the skin lipids, that unlike other oils that simply coat the skin Hemp Seed Oil penetrates the cells and lubricate the surface between them. In other words it not only prevents moisture loss on a physiological level, it is proven to have anti-aging qualities and helps regenerate the skin's protective layer.

The Wardrobe: The Roaring Twenties. Fringe Skirt and Sequin Top

With The Great Gatsby in the cinemas, showcasing fabulous parties and sparkling seas of glamorous dresses the 1920s are making a come back. Embroidery, beading, tassels, fringes, sequins  and feathers characterize the Roaring Twenties, an age of jazz and opulence. The waistline was lower and the cut was, the hems were moving upwards, almost reaching the knee and sleeves were abandoned. For a few years everything was glittering and lavish, decorated with real diamonds and rhinestones. Fashion was dictated by "the taste for dancing" as French designer Jean Patou remarked.

Embroidery, beading, tassels, fringes, sequins  and feathers characterize the Roaring Twenties, an age of jazz and opulence.

Inspired by the the 1920s fashion I picked out this outfit that incorporated several elements characteristic of the era! Pairing the fringe skirt with sequins in a softer tone gave the outfit sparkle without making it too loud or unwearable. The tassel necklace and skinny heels complete the look perfectly adding to twenties feel.

Outfit idea: The Roaring Twenties: Fringe Skirt, Sequin Top and Tassel Neckalce
I am wearing: Skirt: Dika / Top & Sunnies: H&M / Necklace: New Look / Shoes: Vera Pelle

In case you'd like to add some similar pieces to your wardrobe I handpicked a few options from different price points for you to choose from:

June Wish List: Summer Ready in 10 Steps

It is already June which means it's already summer! What better reason to do some shopping (even if it's just window shopping) than a new season? This is my June wish list, which in one simple summer outfit idea illustrates ten important steps to transition you into the warm, sunny season.

Summer outfit idea, clothing and makeup

To start with you need a cute outfit to keep you cool. White is a huge trend for the summer and there's nothing more feminine and lovely than lace. That's why I find this Topshop dress perfect. The cut is very flattering and will look lovely on every figure! It also makes a great canvas for bright, statement accessories like the nautical Oliver Bonas orange necklace. With all these knots it reminds me a sea cruise and long lazy days on the beach.

Inspirational Quote: Ted Talk by Dr. Meg Jay. Defining Decay.

Happy Monday!

I know this TED Talk is longer than the short positive quotes that I normally post in the beginning of a new week but please take the time to hear it. What psychologist Meg Jay has to say is important!

30 is not the new 20!

It is not true that what you're doing now doesn't count! Your twenties are a defining decay! Now's the time when you are building your future!

Have an amazing week!
