Good news for all my curvy ladies out there! Mango is launching its plus-size line on the European market. The range called Violeta is especially designed for the ladies wearing size EU 42 - 50 (UK 12 - 24) and according to the brand, cited by Fashiomag, features "a wide range of on-trend products in a comprehensive collection of clothing and accessories." The collection is being designed by 40 experts and currently comprises of 400 pieces and will continue to grow with new products being added each month.
The line will be launched on the Spanish retailer's online store on January 15th, before the opening of the first Violeta store in Barcelona two days later. The second one is expected to be located in the recently-inaugurated Aèroville shopping center near the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.
50 points of sale across seven European countries - Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Turkey and Russia - are envisaged for the first half of 2014. There will be both dedicated Violeta boutiques as well as corners in larger Mango stores. However, the wider public will have access to the range online.
Mango is not the only retailer making steps towards reaching the fabulous ladies with curves. Last month Debenhams introduced size 16 mannequins into its stores. The brand's director Ed Watson was cited by FashionTimes saying "The average British woman is a size 16, but the high street has been showing them clothing on a mannequin that is three sizes smaller - until now. Having worked on this project for three years, we hope that it will help people in some small way to feel comfortable about their bodies and, crucially, that other retailers will follow."
It boggles the mind doesn't it? If the average woman wears a size 16 how is that plus-size instead of size 6 being minus-size? And why do we even bother to pub such heavy labels that do nothing but bringing women down? Those are just numbers and allure does not depend on them at all! There are no right or wrong body shapes. Skinny doesn't equal beautiful, nor does curvy. What radiates beauty is health, confidence, self-acceptance and happiness!
As Oscar Wilde once said "To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance."
Good luck to Violeta and Debenhams! We can only hope more brands will come to their senses and follow the lead!
