Inspirational Quote: A Different New Year's Resolution

Happy Monday!

Tomorrow, exactly at midnight, 2014 will arrive promising new opportunities, new chances, new lives. We make resolutions and promise ourselves to keep them. Learning a new language, mastering a new skill, finding a new job ... all those are great, but we are often so concerned about ourselves that we forget to look at the bigger picture. It is time to make a change!

Let our new year's resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word." Goran Persson

What's your resolution?

Beauty: Festive Glitter Manicure for New Years Eve

Glitter Manicure featuring Models own, Rimmel, collection and Beauty UK nail polishes
Are you already planning your look for New Year's Eve? I normally begin thinking about it a few weeks in advance so I can buy whatever I might need before everyone hits the mall for last minute Christmas shopping. No matter whether I am going to a huge party or celebrating at home with friends and family I always want to look fabulous welcoming the new year.

Doing my nails is not something I particularly enjoy, but every little detail counts. Well groomed hands say a lot about a woman and the holidays are the perfect time to wear my favorite glitter polishes. Actually, for New Year's Eve I am going to layer three of them for an extra sparkly effect!

A Guide to Christmas: My Letter to Santa Claus

Have you already written your letter to Santa Claus? With only 4 days and 12 hours (yes, I count the hours too)  left till Christmas it is about time to do so. Although most of my wishes are immaterial there are some things I'd love to find under the tree this year. Who doesn't love gifts, right? J

Fashion Thrill's Guide to Christmas: My Letter to Santa Claus featuring Samsung Galaxy tab 3, The tangle teezer, Little red dress, French Connection eyeshadow collection and Leandra Medine's book Man Repeller
1. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 ... or any other tablet. I travel a lot and a compact tablet would be incredibly handy to keep up with the blog and all of my social media. It is about time for me to get Instagram too, right? I also want to start buying more e-books as it will be easier to just a tab around instead of a thick, heavy book and I don't have any space left too keep them anymore.

A Guide to Homemade Christmas: Home-Baked Snowballs

A Guide to Homemade Christmas: Recipe for Christmas Home-Baked Snowballs with white wine and Turkish delight
The aroma of homemade pastries reminds of the coming Holidays. The scent of vanilla, cinnamon and orange are a sure sign that the Christmas lights will be lit very soon. There are beautifully wrapped gifts under the tree at home. I wonder which one is for me? J

To put ourselves in a festive spirit and make as many indulgences as we can, a week before Christmas we start baking different pastries every evening, create the gift labels ourselves and decorate the rooms all the way to the stairwell. I love all these preparations!

I will share with you a recipe for delicious bite-size pastries. They're made with walnuts and white wine. I know this recipe from my mother and she knows it from hers. I keep it in a notebook along with other old recipes for homemade treats. J

A Guide to Homemade Christmas: Cozy Hand-knitted Christmas Tree

Cozy Hand-knitted Christmas Tree for decoration made of natural spun and unspun wool by knitting and hand-felting

I used to count to the days till Christmas and peek under the tree every morning when I was a child. And very often there were gifts waiting for me J

Nowadays we refer to the days around Christmas and New Year's Eve as holidays and working days. To be honest I look forward to them not only because I won't have to wake up early and hurry every morning, but also because of the Christmas euphoria - the tree coated sparkling lights, the gift wrapping and the decoration of the house. And the Christmas carols that sound all around of course.

Today I'll show you how made a little, warm and cozy Christmas tree. Of course we have a big Christmas tree with shining garlands and beautiful ornaments all over it. But this decoration, made of natural wool, warms up the atmosphere around the table. To recreate it you need to have basic skills in crochet and needle felting as well as lots of fantasy and at least as much Christmas inspiration.

Inspirational Quote: 2013 in review. "May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears." Nelson Mandela

Happy Monday!

2014 is almost here and it is time to review the past year, thank for our blessing and forget the problems, evaluate our achievements and analyze our failures.

For me personally 2013 was a year of change and growth, a year of search and discovery. I've spent most of it living in London, studying journalism and interning as an editor, completely immersing myself in what I love most - fashion. I've learned that you can be lonely or bored among millions in a city full of opportunities, but only if you let yourself be. I've learned once again that hard work and courage always pay off. But most importantly, I've learned that fashion really is my calling, my happy place, my biggest dream.

There's one thing London gave me that no other place did, the feeling of infinite possibility, the assurance that nothing is impossible, that I can do it all!

I've had people tell me my dreams are too big, too far, too scary, unattainable and untouchable. I've let myself believe it more often than I'd like to admit. I've let it get to me, pondered over it and brought myself down. But no matter how hard I've tried, I could never accept it. I could never accept that I won't be part of that world of beauty and inspiration that fashion is. I could never accept I would do anything different from pouring my thoughts through my fingertips, letting them form sentences and paragraphs for me to write and re-write in a restless search of perfection.

I've realized it is not failure that I dread that most, it is the fear itself. The fear to try and give it all, to put everything on one card and jump. What I dread the most is to settle, to reconcile, to give up my dreams and myself. What do I have to lose really? I can either jump or always stay on the edge and wonder what if...

As Nelson Mandela once said ...

There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. Nelson Mandela

You can achieve it! You can have it all! You just have to try and try again! "It always seems impossible until it's done." - Nelson Mandela

A Guide to Christmas: Homemade Christmas Jars Filled with Joy

My Christmas workshop is still open J

I love dedicating the weekend to the creation of little warm gifts for my friends. The warmth comes from my heart and hands and I'm sure that this energy can be transferred and felt by the people I love filling their days with coziness. It's cold and windy outside, but I am warm at home with a cup of coffee and a bunch of ideas to bring to life with my own two hands. How can I not feel all fuzzy and Christmasy!

Today I'm making Christmas jars filled with aromatic dried fruit, rich chocolate muffins and ginger bites. I think the result with be a pleasant surprise for my friends. J

The Christmas Wardrobe: Festive & Elegant in Black & White

Christmas outfit featuring H&M snowflake sweater, handmade Houndstooth skirt, handmade knit mohair hat, fluffly ugg inspired boots, star-shaped hair clips from Accessorize and Sleek Vixen lipstick
Christmas-wear does not always have to be loud, ugly or childish. Don't get me wrong, I have a secret passion for the so called ugly Christmas sweaters with their colorful prints and built-in lights. I actually find them absolutely adorable. My point is that you can be festive and still look perfectly appropriate for every social situation, from a day at the office to a dinner date.

To achieve that I paired the most adorable sweater (which I finally gave in and bought after lusting over it for almost a month) with a skirt that I designed and sewed with my mother's help. The snowflake motive embellished with black sequins gives the perfect amount of sparkle while the full skirt layered with tulle looks elegant and feminine (the Ulyana Sergeenko way I hope). The feeling of cozy comfort is extremely important for me during the cold winter months so instead of heels I chose my cute fluffy boots that have never failed to keep me warm . Why not add even more sparkle with the hat and hair accessories. It's almost Christmas after all! A touch of red on the lips and I'm ready to conquer the world with a smile!

Guest Post: Smart Buying Tips for the Fashion Loving but Low-on-Cash Gal

A beautiful wardrobe and a true-to-yourself fashion persona are both built bit by bit, accessory by accessory. They certainly aren't built in a day, contrary to what some wardrobe re-haul experts would have us believe. For anything good to come into existence and to keep evolving it takes time. And money. But not so much of the latter as that of the former.

Inspirational Quote: Christmas House Rules

The lights are already sparkling all around and I am counting the days down. Judy Garland's singing "have yourself a marry little Christmas" and that's exactly what I wish to you! A Guide to Christmas: Scented Decorative Cushions

Creating presents for my friends and family is a very special experience. I find inspiration in everything, in the aroma of Christmas cookies and tea, in the sparkling lights in the shop windows and even in the cold air turning our breath into clouds while the waterspouts freeze into fascinating sculptures. I dedicate the weekends to realizing my ideas. It's great! I've always shared the idea that a gift I've made with my own hands carries a special emotional charge that's shared between the receiver and me.

I will share with you some of my little creations in a series of blog posts. I believe you will find interesting ideas that would give happiness to your loved ones.
