Work Your Summer Pieces into Your Fall Wardrobe

Perhaps you are one of the lucky few who can afford to completely empty your closet from one season to the next and restock with totally new, totally “of-the-moment” looks, but for the majority of us it’s all about making pieces flow seamlessly throughout the seasons for as long as possible. With a few style tips and a little know-how, it’s easy to take fashion-forward summer pieces and work them into your wardrobe during the cooler months of autumn.
Obviously dressing for fall requires some extra warmth, and the simplest way to rework a summer piece is to add layers. Every wardrobe should be armed with at least a couple of cardigans, perhaps one loose boyfriend style and one more fitted polished piece, as well as a signature jacket or two; think fitted blazers, retro leather jackets and military-style jackets. Having these pieces in your fashion arsenal will provide limitless options on styling your summer-wear. For example, a loose cardigan can be belted over your summer maxi dress for a boho-chic vibe. For a chic business casual look, rock a blazer with your sleeveless pant jumpsuit or your favorite tank/boyfriend jeans combo.

Another easy way to add warmth to your summer-wear is by adding scarves, shawls and tights to your look. Scarves can be found in absolutely every color, style, print, length, and material under the sun, and are a cheap way to add a pop of color to any outfit. Take your summer tunics and ponchos and add a pair of leggings or skinny jeans plus your scarf of choice to create a casual-chic daytime look. When it comes to your summer short dresses, you can rock them during fall with a pair of tights and booties. Simply throw on a pair in a coordinating or contrasting color, and work that summer dress all throughout autumn.

The most important component of transitioning a look from one season to the next is getting creative--play stylist and have some fun with your wardrobe! All it takes is a little mixing and matching to guarantee you look hot, regardless of what the thermometer says.
