How to Soothe and Smooth Dry Hands
I suffer from extremely dry hands. And when I say suffer I am not exaggerating even a little. Things reached the point where I would wakeup in the middle of the night to moisturize my hands. I even had to buy a new cream from the airport on my way home not so long ago. After a few months of trial and error I finally found a routine that soothes and smoothes my hands effectively.
Several times a day
Using a moisturizing hand wash that doesn’t dry out your hands is extremely important. My current favorite is Cashmere Moments by Nivea. Other great ones are the Hemp Moisturizing Hand Wash by The Body Shop, Wash Your Hands Of It by Soap and Glory and Moisture Plus by Carex. There’s a variety of scents and price points on the market so you an easily find one that suits you.
After washing my hands I always apply hand cream to moisturize and avoid the feeling of dryness that can be incredibly distracting and irritating. During the day I use light nicely scented hand creams that absorb into the skin quickly like these two, which I purchased in Bulgaria. My absolute favorite right now is the Hand Food by Soap and Glory along with the Nivea Nourishing Hand Cream and the Intensive Rescue Soothing hand cream by Vaseline.
Every evening while I am watching a movie or reading a book I apply the Hemp Hand Protector by The Body Shop. It is a heavy duty, thick hand cram that moisturizes deeply. Because it takes quite a lot of time to soak into the skin I put on cotton manicure gloves to give my skin the time to absorb the cream. This is definitely one of the best hands creams I have ever tried along with the L’Occitane ones. Hemp Seed Oil does miracles for the skin. I wrote an entire post about it which you can read here: Why is Hemp Seed Oil good for your skin.
Every other evening
Every other evening, before applying the Hemp Protector I exfoliate my hands. Currently I am using the Newtons Skin Smoothing Hand Scrub. You can easily make a DIY hand scrub. Let me know if you’d like me to make a post on that. Exfoliating your hands is just as important as exfoliating your body and face. Why ignore them?
Once a Week
Once a week I use a hand mask that penetrates deep into the skin and makes my hands so soft. This one by Beauty Formulas smells like real peaches which makes it my absolute favorite. Soap and Glory’s Endless Glove is amazing as well!
In my purse
My purse essentials are a hand cream and sanitizer. When I’m out and about and my hands don’t feel very clean I prefer using hand sanitizer better than washing my hands in a public bathroom just because the soaps there are normally awful and very drying. You can see I’m a little obsessed with Soap and Glory’s products but it’s just because they’re pink and both the Hand Food and the Hand Maid smell so lovely!
