The Wardrobe: Fun and Colorful

Happy weekend! Do you have any great plans or are you just going to enjoy unplanned and surprising two summer days?

It's time for an outfit post! I know I haven't done one for a while and the reason is that it's been way too hot around here so by the time I get to the point of making pictures I already used to feel horrible. Anyways, lately the weather's been better so yesterday I made some pictures of a simple yet fun and colorful outfit I had to put together in 10 minutes because I was being late... as always :)

In the center of course is the top my mom made! I love the colors and the breezy fabrics! Everything else revolves around it: the H&M pink and lovely shoes and the bra which I admit is purpusfully bright and unhidden! I love the idea of underwear as outwear and part if the outfit! How do you feel about it? The bag is vintage and I think it perfectly completes the outfit... and of course the lipstick! The bright and unusual for me lipstick color I decided to experiment with.

That's that. I am off to the gym! Have a great saturday and check out my mom's online boutique here!

Celebrity Endorsements Part 2

Last week I gave you some good examples to explain fashion endorsements and how they work. But these can occasionally go wrong. This was Burberry's case. In 2005, the British supermodel Kate Moss had been chosen to head up a promotional campaign for the brand, when she made headlines following allegations of drug abuse. Fearful  of the adverse publicity, Burberry terminated her contract. Soon after H&M and Chanel followed and severed all links with Moss. (The model's celebrity status quickly recovered and now she's on the top of her career).

The Great Designers: Manolo Blahnik

Hello lovelies! Today's designer spotlight is all about shoes! One of the greatest shoe designers of all times was born on the Canary islands in 1942, studied law and literature in Geneva , moving on to art in the beautiful Paris and set design in London soon after. He had the luck to be in the right place at the right time and met the influential American Vogue editor Diana Vreeland during his New York visit in the 1970. Seeing his sketches of shoes she advised him to pursue a career in footwear. To the delight of women ever since - and in particular Carrie Bradshaw - Manolo Blahnik did so. A legend was born!

He went back to London and learnt his craft by visiting shoe factories and studying every stage of the footwear alchemy. It's a fact that he's still very much hands-on and makes shoes himself! Within just a year Blahnik was already making the delicate, resolutely feminine and disarmingly beautiful shoes he has become famous for. In 1968 he opened his first boutique in London's Chelsea. It attracted fans as Bianca Jagger, Jerry Hall and Marie Helvin. In 1974 Blahnik was the first man ever featured on the cover of the British Vogue. About this time he started collaborating with young designers and Calvin Klein, John Galliano and Proenza Schouler have all hadtheir footwear created by him. Now this is a coming-up story!

Manolo Blahnik won countless awards, including an Honorary Doctorate from the RCA in 2001 and the first ever Silver Slipper Award given to a shoe designer in 1999. To add to his celebrity design status, London's Design Museum staged the first Blahnik retrospective in 2003.

You all know what Blahnik's signature designs are! They are high, sexy and always elegant! Simply irresistible! The designer himself says that he has so many favorite pieces but he particularly adores the beaded up the leg sandals he did for John Galliano for his Dior Couture "Masai Warrior" collection, and his own futuristic collection from 1986. The devoted designer says that his work is one of the most satisfying parts of his life, it is his passion and all passions can have their difficulties, but he's still driven to continue. When designing Manolo Blahnik is inspired by the changes from day to day. It even surprises himself... movies, books, painting, architecture, landscapes and certain women he sometimes sees in the streets. No wander that his philosophy is hard work!

The most important lesson mister Blahnik has ever learnt is that whatever you do you should always do your best! And he definitely does!

"Beauty is captured in fleeting moments and reflected in one's eyes." ~ Manolo Blahnik

Inspirational Quote: The Best of It

Happy new week of summer! This morning finds me relaxing and having coffee and strawberry juice in the sun, thinking about happiness and what it depends on. We people tend to never have enough of anything, we always want more: more tequila, more love, more things, more is better. So when are we going to finally stop for a minute and appreciate what we have already? It's more than enough to be happy!

Are you happy?

Celebrity Endorsement Part 1

Celebrities provide the perfect scenario for fashion to be endorsed. Millions of moviegoers will see a film and experience the clothes, attitude and style so perfectly portrayed by their screen idols.

One of my personal favorite examples is the New York-based TV series Sex and the City. The show became iconic for influential fashion directions. Each of the four women has a distinct personal style that helps portray her personality. Carrie is fearlessly fashionable, her style varies from uptown chic to whimsical and quirky to sex kitten. Samantha wears sharp styles in bold colors that exude confidence. Charlotte has a sweet, preppy, and demure style with influences from the 1950s. Miranda is a well-dressed career woman often seen in smartly tailored suits. I most definitely love Carrie's style most and I kind of associate myself with her! Who's your favorite?

The Great Designers: Phoebe Philo for Chloè

It's Wednesday and you know what it means: time for a designer spotlight! Today I am going to introduce the incredible and talented woman behind the gorgeous Chloè collections since 2001. She was born in the city of love and fashion Paris and graduated in one of the best fashion schools in the world - Central Saint Martins. Phoebe Philo has improved the brand's youthful and feminine reputation - delicate vintage style camisole tops and sexy trousers are signatures. Her undeniable talent is the reason the designer picked up a British Designer of the Year prize in 2004 and is now at the helm of a bona fide success story.

Phoebe Philo says that her signature designs cannot really be summed up. It's a little bit of everything but what she loves most are probably the trousers because they "do give a lovely bottom." Often her favorite pieces are the least commercial ones. The designer describes her work as work in progress and her ultimate goal is to enjoy it and everything else in her life. She says that designing can be relentless sometimes but when it's good, it's great and that is what keeps her going. Luckily! When she's designing she has on her mind people ho inspire her and seeing someone who she really loves and respects wearing something she created can really move her.

The greatest influence to Philo's career have been the relationships she has with her friends and family, the life in cube and unexpectedly learning to bogle. She says she's trying not to assess too much because things are just the way they are and a little bit of everything is good. The most important lesson Phoebe Philo has ever learned is one that everyone should sooner or later learn: Don't fuck with people.

"I'm inspired by sunsets, sunrises, being with horses and love."  ~ Phoebe Philo

Here are some pictures of my favorite pieces and details of the Chloè's fall 2011 runway! I just love the soft fabrics combined with leather, the mix of creamy and bright colors and the edgy but soft and elegant femininity in every single outfit!

Sorry for the overload of pictures I just couldn't make a choice. The last outfit is my favorite! I love the princes like soft feminine look! What piece do you like most?
