Galliano suspended from Dior?! Are you serious?! - The Story Continues

There's an update on the story of Galliano's anti-Semitic remarks. Sadly the news are not so good.On Sunday it was announced that the designer was set to meet up with the couple that accused him of using recist insults towards them. The aim of the meeting, organized by the Paris public prosecuter's office, is to find the truth about what really happened on thursday night. It's not clear yet if the case is going to end up in court. So far, so good.

The bad part started today when somehow on the internet emerged a video of Galliano insulting two women sitting on a table at reportedly the same bar - "La Perle." The remarks the designer makes are clearly anti-Semitic and he appears to be really drunk. The video was realeased by the "Sun" this morning. Following the video another complained against John Galliano was filed by an unnamed woman. It is not clear is that one of the women in the video.

It was expected that Dior will announce their desicion on the case and it will become clear to the world is Galliano going to miss his legendary bow in the end of the runway for the first time in the last 15 years.

When asked about her opinion the director of the Italian Vogue, Franca Sozzani, said: "Christian Dior withouth John Galliano would be a huge pitty." And I couldn't agree more!

Inspirational Quote: Yves Saint Laurent

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
 ~ Yves Saint Laurent

I know this is one of the most common and all known quotes but there's a reason for it. Mr. Laurent couldn't put it any better. As mademoiselle Chanel says: "Fashion is made to become unfashionable." So don't just blindly follow the newest trends. don't just try to reproduce what you see on the runways, instead create your own signature style and reinvent fashions through your own point of view. Don't be a follower. Be a leader instead. Be iconic.

The iconic "le smoking" YSL introduced ti the ladies. Exactly as fashionable and stylish now as it was years ago!

Have a great week everyone!

Galliano suspended from Dior?! Are you serious?!

The man behind the success and the 700 million euro annual income of the fashion house Dior was suspended from his position just a few days before the fall/winter 2011/2012 RTW runway. What's the reason? Not even confirmed accusations of anti-Semitic remarks.

The first version of the story was that the genius designer got totally wasted in cafe "La Perle" in Paris and assaulted a random couple by saying: "Dirty Jewish face, you should be dead ... Fucking Asian bastard, I will kill you." Or at least that's what the couple says. As the story goes on, the police comes and takes Galliano to the station.

There's another point of view and I believe that more. There were some eyewitnesses in the cafe who say that the star designer was drunk but he was in a jolly not aggressive mood and he was just trying to start a conversation with the couple. They didn't recognize him and when he said "cheers" the answer was: “You’re ugly, you’re disgusting, move away from here!” Galliano did not pay attention to this and kept talking with the other people around. At some point he responded to the lady by saying: “You’re ugly and your fucking bag is ugly too” (nothing racist really).  At that moment her boyfriend started threatening the designer with his chair. Galliano's bodyguard tried to quite the situation down but there was nothing more to do. The woman called the police while the designer came down smoking a cigarette. In the end of it all he peacefully went to the police station to give his point of view on the case. Somehow I'm more eager to believe this one.

The investigation on the incident continues, but whatever the truth is Galliano was suspended from his position in Dior. At least for now. In a telephone interview his lawyer (Stephane Zerbib) says that the designer "formally denies the accusations of anti-Semitism made against him." Galliano "is not at all in this state of mind (and) will explain later," Zerbib said, adding that "legal action will be taken against those making such accusations."

The position of the fashion house? The chairman and chief executive of Christian Dior Couture, Sidney Toledano said: “Christian Dior has an unequivocal zero-tolerance policy regarding anti-Semitism and racism,” adding that John Galliano had been suspended pending the conclusion of a police investigation into the incident.

No one really knows how is this going to affect the upcoming runway, so we are waiting for an update every minute. Personally my opinion is that the loss for Dior is huge and I really hope Galliano is going to be back where he belongs just in time for the catwalk we've been waiting for.

What do you think on this matter?

Fashion is not practical, but we still adore it

Is there a difference between fashion and clothing? And if there is what exactly is it? These are the forefront questions of the modern culture. I’m not exaggerating. Anthropologists, philosophers, scholars, psychologists, sociologists, theorists and academics are working on these two matters.

The markets are expanding every hour of every day, just as the variety of offers, which makes it necessary to answer the questions above. In short, clothing can be described as something that covers and protects the body. The practical function takes over the style and the aesthetics. So given that, it becomes clear why the color, fabric and the details rarely change. What matters for the choice of all the features, is the climate, the terrain, the lifestyle and the social and cultural values. In simple terms – everything clothing should be is practical. An example for this type of wear, are the work uniforms, because they have the primary purpose of protection and functionality.

Fashion, on the other hand, is something completely different. And it is what all of us fashion bloggers love. What matters most in fashion is the style and the details, comfort and functionality are not that important. You don’t agree? Think of all the killer heels you love so much, or the lace shirts that you freeze in during the winter but you keep wearing them just because they look so gorgeous… or the stunning corsets in which is hard to breathe… Are these examples enough to convince you?  Moreover, fashion is a constant change. It doesn’t wait for anyone. Materials, cuts, forms, colors keep changing every season while style and beauty reign supreme.

The primary function of fashion is not to cover the beauty of the body or to be functional. What fashion really does is to deliver new trends and possibilities to the capricious costumers.  Don’t think this is superficial, shallow or pretentious. Designers work really hard to find a way to connect to the consumers on and aesthetical and emotional level. Via catwalks, dressing and fashion media can be discussed important matters such as gender, sexuality, identity.

Fashion inspiration is all around us – in the nature, the history, the politics, the culture, the technology, etc. Alongside the collections, designers work with make-up artists, hairstylists and stylists to be able to present to us the perfect fashion package for the new season. And this is exactly what we get, season after season, pure perfection!

The Great Designers: John Galliano

A designer inspired by music, art, film, street culture and most of all by the modern-day woman who’s assertive and independent. A man who thinks there’s nothing more beautiful than a woman in charge of her own destiny. A son who’s influenced by his mother’s and grandmother’s sense of occasion for dress and love for life, by his great teachers, by the theater... A father whose children are the pieces he makes. A creator, whose love of textiles comes from the souks, the markets, the smells, the herbs and most importantly from the Mediterranean color. An artist who loves the very act of creating and constantly searches new innovative solutions. A boy that was born to a Gibraltan working family to become one of Britain’s fashion heroes. A fashion genius who finds that the most important lesson is to learn to live with his critics. A person, whose ultimate goal is to live life to the fullest and to hold on to every minute as if it’s his last one on Earth. John Galliano is all of this… and much more.

“I am here to make people dream, to seduce them into buying beautiful clothes and to strive to make amazing clothing to the best if my ability. This is my duty.”
~ John Galliano

Shoot of the week: Adriana Lima by Vincent Peters

Starting today every Sunday I'll be sharing with you my favorite shoot of the week. No matter how tempting it is to post every single spread I like (and they're way too many) I decided that I want to have more original content on my blog so I'll reserve lazy Sundays for the sessions. I hope you'll enjoy this new tradition.

The first shoot I want to share with you takes us back to the age of the burlesque. I love the retro glamour and ultra feminine look it recreates. Adriana Lima shines as a mesmerizing club singer styled by Valentina Serra and  perfectly captured by Vincent Peters. The stylish, sophisticated and sexy desings are from D&G, Valentino and Eres. The shoot was published in the February edition of Vogue Italy. Enjoy!

Fashion is NOT supeficial. It's who you are.

Whether you realize or not fashion and clothing play an important role in our lives. Every day we wake up and we think about what we are going to wear. We base our decision on the image we want to convey, the places we have to visit, and the people we have to meet. The way we dress even when going to the gym is the way we present ourselves to the world. In other words you have to care because clothing and fashion influence your life and the way people perceive you. It’s up to you to choose to take control over that influence making conscious decision how you are going to look like in every situation.

This process of control starts way before the moment you just stand in front of your wardrobe wandering what’s the most appropriate outfit for the day. It starts even before you go shopping and choose what to buy thinking about the color, the cut, the trends etc. In our every day lives we interact with people, we watch television, read magazines and can’t help but notice the passers-by in the street. In other words every single day we are overwhelmed by designer names, trends, styles, shapes, cuts, colors and before we know we begin building our relationship with clothes. And it’s not bad or superficial; it is what helps you make informed decision on your look and control the way people perceive you.

And YES! People make judgments based on you looks. I know what you’re thinking – it’s shallow. But wait a second! Don’t you do it too? Of course you do. It’s the first impression that plays the part, and you cannot help it, because you re just a person living in the 21st century world. That’s the way our world is – fast, judgmental and very, very fashionable. So keep up!
