It's Wednesday and today's spotlight will fall on Bottega Veneta's head designer Tomas Maier. He is the reason the collections returned to a more sophisticated aesthetic and have been extended to cover lap top cases, shoes in exotic leathers, cashmere knits and homeware ranges. The focus, he staited, is to remain on accessories and niche products. Miami-based, German-born Maier trained at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris and has a long history as a luxury goods designer - including nine years as designer of womenswear for Hermes and, 1998, the lunch of his own collection. He's being tipped as a man to watch for a reason, and the reason is his great talent.
Maier defines his signature designes as casual low key luxury and his favorite pieces are the surf shorts and the Bottega Cabat. Inpired by everything around him and everything stored in his brain, he says his work is a combinatination of design, material and color research, to fulfil a desire for beauty and function. The designer's ultimate goal is to underline personality rather than the opposite. May be this aim the reason that when Tomas Maier works he doesn't have in mind anyone in particular. He believes everybody is different. This talented man does not find designing difficult because as he says "at the end of every cycle there is a desire ot move on."
For Maier beauty is harmony - when everything comes together. He belives that there is always room for improvement and the most important lesson to him is that passion and patience go together.
"Fashion is a reflection of out time and many times and indicator of human sensibility." ~ Tomas Maier.
Here are some of my favorite pieces of the fall 2011 RTW collection. Actually it is almost the entire collection but I just couldn't resist! I love the fabrics, the colors, the structured silluethes and the feminine retro sophistication attached to every single piece!
