The Great Designers: Alberta Ferretti
We are in the middle of the week and it's time for another designer spotlight. You already know how I feel about Italy so it's no wonder I love Italian fashion. So, she's a woman, she's Italian and she's one of my very favorite designers!
Alberta Ferretti is know for her fragile little dresses inspired by the lyrical femininity and fluidity as celebrated in Fellini movie being made around Cattolica (her hometown) while she was growing up. When she was only 18 she opened her first boutique there and in 1974 started her own label.
Her favorite pieces are the ones that best represent her style typical with it's lightness and softness. She never has a specific person in her mind while working, she's inspired by emotions and feelings, because for her designing is a real passion and keeping the creativity alive is necessary. What's fundamental for Alberta Ferretti is to maintain her initial concept of elegance, femininity and sensuality.
The greatest influence on her career has been everything from the endless challenges the designer faced to the effort she makes to improve herself and reach new goals, the ultimate of which is to create a dress like the Intarsia dresses of her Alberta Ferretti autumn/winter 2004 collection, like the one Scarlett Johansson wore for the Oscars in 2004.
Beauty to her is the harmony created by the dress and the woman who wears it. One of the best definitions I've ever heard. And remember, everyday life is full of lessons and each one is important. There's always something to learn, even if it doesn't seem like it at first sight.
" I try to transform a dream's magic into reality."
~ Alberta Ferretti
