The Great Designers: Alber Elbaz
A designer who’s driven by the search for perfection season after season, he says that if he finds it he’ll probably retire. A man who finds that beauty is in the individuality and whose philosophy is “being me.” This is what makes designing difficult for him. It’s not easy being Alber Elbaz. His work is a voyage of his life, a voyage between Morocco where he was born, Tel Aviv where he was raised by his artistic mother, New York where he received his most valuable training as the right hand man to the late Geoffrey Beene, and Paris where he’s currently working as artistic director for Lanvin since 2001. In the fashion house he had the opportunity develop jewelry, shoe and handbag collections, but definitely his most outstanding talent is the creation of ultra-feminine cocktail dresses that are the epitome of the Parisian chick – playful, soft, unexpected and very sophisticated. His signature designs are a mix of two worlds, the old and the new - old technique with new and innovative proportions. Pleated silk dresses, satin ribbon details, and costume jewelry - all created with the only purpose to make women beautiful. The passioning work of the designer is inspired by everything, everybody, anywhere and all the time. Hopefully he’ll never find perfection.
" Each city, each country, gave me different colors, different senses, different feelings."
~ Alber Elbaz
